FAQ's on CEED

Who are eligible for CEED exam?

For the NID DAT exams, there is no fixed cut-off or passing score. Usually, NID shortlists candidates equalling to thrice the number of available seats for the DAT Mains. The cut-off marks are based on the performance of students in DAT Prelims that year.

The cut-off for the NID DAT Prelims is expected to be lower in 2019 by at least 5 marks. This is primarily because the weightage for subjective section was 70 percent in 2019 as compared to 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Last year, the cut-offs for the NID DAT BDes Prelims (category-wise) were as follows:

ProgrammeOpenReserved
EWSOBC-NCLSCSTPwDOverseas
B.Des/GDPD65655545454565
M.Des50504540404050

The cut offs for the NID DAT MDes Prelims are different for each discipline and ranges 55 to 75.

What is the next step after clearing CEED Entrance Examination?

A candidate who has cleared the CEED entrance tests can appear for the following designing programmes:

  • Master of Design in Industrial Design, IIT Delhi
  • Master of Design in Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Animation, Interaction Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design at IIT Bombay
  • Master of Design in Visual Design, IIT Hyderabad
  • Master of Design in Design, IIT Kanpur
  • Master of Design in Design, IIT Guwahati
  • Master of Design in Design, IITDM Jabalpur
  • Master of Design in Design, Symbiosis, Pune
  • Master of Design in Product Design and Engineering, IISc Bangalore
  • Master of Design in Product Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design and Transportation Design, School of Design, UPES, Dehradun

A candidate may also pursue PHD programmes in Design in IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur or IISc Bangalore.

How many times is CEED exam conducted in a year?

CEED is conducted once a year, usually, in the month of January. The result for CEED written exam are released in March. In 2021, the exam is being held on January 17 and result for it will be declared on March 8.

Why are students from all academic streams eligible to apply for CEED, a design course by the top IITs?

Successful designers may hail from any background. Design is not an activity that is restricted to a certain discipline. Yet, it is worth noting that candidates from a science background have an edge over others. Candidates who come from the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics stream may apply for any of the IIT institutes that offers the Master in Design Course. A candidate from any other background can only apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur or IITDM Jabalpur.
