NID Entrance Exam is a means through which aspirants are shortlisted for admission in UG and PG design courses offered at the prestigious National Institute Design (NID) campuses. Candidates need to clear two NID admission tests in order to be eligible for admission in Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Master of Design (MDes) courses offered at its campuses.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Des. programs :
Upper Age Limit – Candidate should be 20 years of age before 1st July (relaxable for up to 3 years for reserved category)
Educational Qualification – Candidate should have passed or be appearing for 10+2 exam from any recognized board.
Eligibility Criteria for M.Des. programs :
Upper Age Limit – Candidate should be 23 years of age before 1st July (relaxable for up to 3 years for reserved category)
Educational Qualification – Candidate should have passed from any recognized institute or university in any of the following :
a. Bachelor degree in any discipline under 10+2+4 system
b. Bachelor degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 system with one year experience or further academic qualification
c. Diploma in Design under 10+2+4 system
DAT (Prelims) will be conducted in the Indian cities of Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Ranchi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada. On the other hand, the DAT (Mains) are conducted in different NID campuses.
For the NID DAT exams, there is no fixed cut-off or passing score. Usually, NID shortlists candidates equalling to thrice the number of available seats for the DAT Mains. The cut-off marks are based on the performance of students in DAT Prelims that year.
The cut-off for the NID DAT Prelims is expected to be lower in 2019 by at least 5 marks. This is primarily because the weightage for subjective section was 70 percent in 2019 as compared to 2016, 2017, and 2018.
